Sustainable climate action requires not just strong policy frameworks, but capable leadership at the local level. In India's rural governance systems, block and district-level officers—often referred to as middle managers—play a critical role in implementing programs, mobilizing communities, and responding to local challenges. However, these individuals often operate in complex environments with limited resources, competing priorities, and high levels of administrative pressure.
The School of Climate and Sustainability believes that building the leadership, confidence, and systems-thinking capacity of these officials is essential to transforming service delivery and fostering climate resilience from the ground up.
Interventions
We design and deliver immersive, context-specific learning journeys that integrate technical training with leadership development, equipping middle managers to drive systemic change at the grassroots and institutional levels.
- Conduct workshops focused on personal transformation, team building, leadership development, and technical skills tailored to regional needs.
- Facilitate real-time problem-solving, reflective practice, and participatory learning rooted in lived realities and field challenges.
- Implemented 9 Deep Dive Initiative workshops for middle managers (MMs) across Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand, centered on leadership and self-development.
- In Jharkhand, facilitated a series of One Last Mile Cadre (LMC) workshops covering technical training, leadership development, and Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) planning.
- Enabled the formation of peer-led professional learning communities to foster continuous learning, feedback loops, and shared accountability.
- Delivered State-Level Interventions (SLI) workshops in Maharashtra, including sessions on Leadership for Service Delivery and Plastic Waste Management.
- Conducted 4 technically focused MM workshops in Jammu & Kashmir on Water Quality and Springshed Management, addressing region-specific ecological and climate priorities.
